Some 2013 Fall Break Getaways

Biltmore Estates

It is times for "Fall Break" for some, for my child it is this coming weekend and I started of thinking of some place fun and interesting to go that didn't require a whole week involvement. The Biltmore Estate came to mind, it is a place you can spend as little or as much time you want touring. It is a perfect place to take a date, a spouse or even the whole family on a short romantic or family adventure type getaway. The French Renaissance château, built by George W. Vanderbilt, has 250 rooms and sits on over 8,000 acres and is split in half by the French Broad River. Visitors should allow a minimum of 5 hours to see the place it's  pretty enormous. The fourth floor is now open, expanding your tour to view the servant's quarters, many sightseers make a day of it. The estate is divided into four different attractions, including the mansion itself, part of a two and a half hour self-directed tour. Visitors are supplied with a map that covers the floors of the building and the basement. Immediately adjacent to the mansion lie the greenhouses and conservatories. Three miles from the main house is the Winery and Biltmore Farm Village. Finally, there's the Explore Biltmore Center, devoted to outdoor sports and family activities, including horseback riding, cycling, trips on the French Broad River, and other events. Two tours are offered. The Behind the Scenes Tour provides further access to the house, and the Rooftop Tour provides panoramic views. The furnishings were accumulated by Vanderbilt on extensive buying-trips overseas while the mansions was under construction. This included furniture, tapestries, hundreds of carpets, prints, linens, and decorative objects, all dating between the 1400s and the late 1800s, and all coming from various eastern and western countries and continents around the world. This is a very unique and fun place to venture, a "Must See".

New York  City

Another great place to visit during the Fall the Big Apple. Golden-leafed oaks and smoldering-red maples illuminate Central Park, and the open-air markets brim with crisp apples and fresh artichokes. Plus, you can pick up a few new, cool-weather items for your wardrobe in SoHo (or simply admire the fall collections along Fifth Avenue). After a full day of reveling in autumnal bliss, you can bed down with a smile on your face, knowing you scored a deal. Another good reason to take a Fall visit is on average, hotel rates are generally 8 percent lower than they were this time last year. Then of course there is the romantic aspect of New York. The famous city it self is an icon for romantic movies and books but add that and Fall together, you have a fairytale in the making.
